I am also curious about Citgo. It is one the cheapest oil that I can find any day at Fleet Farm for $1.20 or less on sale. The 5w20 also is the same price. Been thinking about using it for a while. I am sure it is good, but is it better than Motorcraft or Havoline. I can find Havoline pretty cheap on sale around here. I have been using Citgo in the lawn mower, but still use Motorcraft in my wife's Taurus and Havoline in the rest. I do use Mystic in the Kubota Diesel and am happy with it.
Citgo Oil is a quality lubricant. use it with confidence in your Ford. at our work, we used CITGO for several years in 55 gallon drums for 15w40 and 10w30 weights without any problems, before switching to Chevron Supreme oil in 55 gallon drums.
I am on my third crankcase full of Citgo Superguard 10w40. Normally use Valvoline, but got the Citgo for 50 cents a quart and it is perfect for the Auto Rx treatment and rinses I am doing (Auto-rx.com). If you want a really robust oil try Citgo Ultralife. That stuff has a heavy duty additive package with high zinc and phosphorus (I believe around 1400 ppm each like a HDEO) and moly too.
I have seen "Packaged by Citgo" on the label of some Meijer oil. That stuff sometimes is on sale for $6 a 12 qt case. Don't know how it compares to Superguard though.
Apparently the 50 cent Citgo was a one time deal. Found it in a Dollar General store by me about 6 m onths ago. 17 qts 10w40. They also had about as much 10w30. Should have bought that too.
We have a Dollar Store here in Sacramento that sells Citgo Superguard for $1 a quart in 30HD, 10w30 and 10w40 weights, including Citgo ATF. Still a good deal IMHO. One time they had a couple cases of 32 oz. (quarts) of Marvel Mystery Oil for $1. I bought 4 quarts of it, then went back a week later on a Saturday morning, and the MMO was long gone. I have not seen anymore since then, but they've carried a steady stock of Citgo oil for a least six months now, maybe longer.
I don't know if this helps but I used the Citgo 10-30 hi mileage oil my last change in my 428ci engine that only gets drove a couple to three times a month but see's some hard driving when I do drive . I put it in last January and it's still a golden honey color so I guess it's still good . The engine is a quiet runner with that oil if any of this helps .
Thank you Ed and TallPaul for the info on low price oil. I seldom get to the discount stores except that I do buy in Walmart a five quart bottle of 5W-30 Super Tech oil rated API SL for $4.23. I buy on price if it's the right weight oil and has the SL rating rather than by brand, and if I could find any oil that meets the criteria for 50 cents a quart, that would be a great bargain.
Springs. I think you should visit the bobistheoilguy.com site. Go to the forums. Near the end of the forums list is one on product rebates and other deals. There recently was a free Valvoline Durablend. Just saw 84 cent Havoline. I think there was some 59 cent stuff recently.

Am I seeing that right? You've got the same oil in an engine for basically a year now? Please do the engine a favor and change it, if that is the case. Engine oil doesn't need help in getting moisture and all sorts of junk in it and you end up with carbonic acid (oil = hydrocarbon + water = forms carbonic acid over time) and a not-so-smooth running engine.
That's where the 3 months/3000 miles thing comes in. I go 5000 miles, but I don't let oil sit in an engine, no matter the mileage, for more than a few months.

AlfredB1979, I agree!! I always want to know the bottom end of my engines, are lubricated with clean, fresh oil. Unless a engine that is not started and driven often is stored in a 70-75 degree garage year around, there will be moisture and condensation issues involved. Hence, I'd rather change the oil and filter sooner, rather than later. Others, I know will disagree, but that is their opinion. Ed
I have no way of proving but i really do not think i am harming my engine and i think the oil is still good for right now . Every time it is driven the engine gets up to temperature for over one hour and the oil does not smell like it has gas in it . The holley carb does not have a electric choke so i just pump it a few times and drive away and it only puffs some black smoke right when its first started . The pu is garage kept and only goes for longer weekend drives but i will change the oil soon .
thanks for the advice and i am not arguing any point but i was told 3 month and 3 thousand miles is a thing of the past .
I have a 76 Nova 250 six that is drove sparingly 6 months a year and in storage in winter. I have been changing it once a year for the last couple years. The oil stays golden amber color also. I don't think it hurts much. I agree that there is probably contaminates and acid possibly forming in it and I probably should change it at 6 months, but I have driven it under 500 miles for each of the last 2 years. I might as well not even have it, but it has sentimental reasons and I don't want to sell it. My idea is to restore it someday and maybe put a v8 in, so I am less apt to baby the engine right now since it is in great shape....hmm all the more reason to take care of it huh?
On my wife's 71 mustang, I change it after a few miles of coming out of the garage in spring and before putting it away for storage in winter. Might be a little overkill, but I seem to care about this one more.
