resurfacing heads
On gassers, common practice to check heads for flatness on mating surface, and to mill or deck heads to flat. Sounds like this could be a major issue with clearance being so close on these 6.9l diesels. Is this not a common occurance on these engines? If, in the process of having heads cleaned and valves, stems, seals replaced, head needs to be resurfaced, can you shim the heads in some way? What would be smartest way to correct this condition? Am I worrying about something inconsequential, or is there a common way to correct this condition? Appreciate your experience, Thanks all.
Some motors have oversized head gaskets available and some don't.
It by no means is somethng you have to do and you are better off if you don't just because it look nice.
Remember this when you mill down a head or deck a block you retard the fuel timing.
Per AERA specs:
Stem to guide clearance (intake & exhaust): .0013" - .0055"
Valve height (measured from top of valve to "deck" height)
Intake: .042" - .054" Exhaust: .051" - .063"
Minimum head thickness (from "deck" to valve cover surface): 4.7950"
