The first time I towed a car on a trailer nearly jake knifed the truck and trailer. I put the car on backwards cause it was easier to load it. Driving in freeway the truck and trailer started to sway the faster I went the worse it got. Had to pull into a Lowe's just off freeway to reposition with car facing forward. The truck was a '95 Ranger 4.0l with a manual trans. Nice little truck.
Too little tongue weight will cause sway. You can load cars on backwards, but sometimes it's hard to get enough weight forward. Had that issue with the F350 carcass I towed to the scrap yard. Loaded backwards and without axles it wasn't moving... So a 10.25 axle went for a ride on the front of the trailer...
A buddy of mine got a chevy 1/2 ton with a 6.2L diesel given to him. We went after I got off of work about a 2 hour drive to get it. We get there and when we asked where the truck was at he pointed down a reviene next to his house truck was marooned on a section of ground bordered by high clogs and a large creek. He drove the truck in there when the creek was down and that night it rained filled the creek. And the creek never went back down. Sat there long enough for a tree to grow through the floor and out the drivers window. So we linked all the straps together and still came up short of getting it. My buddy said well we will come back for it. I said BS I didn't come this far after a 16 hour shift for nothing. I backed the whole trailer off the cliff slid down that hooked the straps to the trailer and pulled truck trailer 90 foot of strap and a tree up the cliff. In my 1990 f350 idi truck. Got it to the top and it wouldn't roll forward so we loaded it backward. I fell asleep just as we got truck loaded and heading down the road. Buy this time we were in danger of me being late for work another 16 hour day. I slept about an when I woke up I was looking at the side mirror and all I can see is tail light no tail light tail light no tail light. Look over at the speedo I can't even see the needle. the trailer looks like a dog's tail waging away and I just sinched up the seat belt and went back to sleep

Dude you have bigger nads then I have. The sway of a '87 VW Cabriolet on backwards was enough to scare the **** out of me.
Ohh belive me when I woke back up I had to pull the cloth out of my sphincter. I think I was building a nest.on a high note we made it back in time for me to get a shower and go back to work.
The first tow with my 460 was only a Troy-Built riding mower, with a brand new Craftsmen riding mower in the bed. Needless to say the truck didn't really feel it. I had to keep looking back to make sure the trailer was still there.
My first tow with my current truck was driving it home. I drove my Bronco 450 mile to Indiana, hooked its tow bar to the new (to me) pickup and drove 450 miles home. That was a long day. And the truck felt it every time the Bronco hit a bump!
Yup! Managing a trailer is tough sometimes haha I still have to get used to it.
That's awesome! I love the amount of towing on this forum
if you enjoy these rigs towing i suggest you hit up or search for the thread titled "loaded up truck thread" started by myself. there are 20 plus pages of these generations of trucks out working, and i think there is a video.
you are also welcome to drop your own towing pics in there as well
I found the pic of loading the 14000 lb truck onto a trailer we didn't know how much it weighed until we pulled the bed off and had it blasted they had it sitting on a scale when we picked it up 8000 lb bed the sides were originally 1/4 steel then someone welded 1/2 over that and all the added bracing welded on was just massive
