Hey guys I'm new to tranny troubleshooting and building and somewhat ignorant to symptoms. I have a few questions for you specialists.
First, can someone explain stall converters and what they do and the applications of each type?
Second, what is the hp limit of the stock input shaft on a C6? At What point do I wanna start thinking billet?
Third, I noticed that when I am going to stop the truck still tries to lurch forward a few times before I come to a complete stop but then it seems fine. Could this be a clutch issue? Which leads me to my last question.
Fourth, what is the best tranny rebuild kit that will beef up my tranny a bit more. Just want a little bit more reliability.
They tranny is in a 72 F250 with a basically stock 429. I'm gonna be pulling the motor and tranny this weekend because both need seals replaced and I am going to be rebuilding and porting my heads. The motor only has a 600 cfm carb so I will also be getting a 750 cfm for it.
Sorry for all the questions at once. Thanks guys.
Every torque converter ever built is a stall converter. Saying stall converter by itself is meaningless. To make sense you need to specify high or low stall converter.
Stall is simply the maximum engine speed that can be achieved with the trans in gear, the vehicle not moving, and the go pedal on the floor. A rule of thumb is that stall speed should be a little below the engine's torque peak.
