torque converter question

i have a 1977 f-150, this winter i repaced both axles with dana 60's, and kept the coilspring front set-up, replaced the 4 speedtranny with a c-6. The c-6 has reverse manual valve body, and a e4od upgrade. I am running a 390fe with a 445 stroker kit from scat. The motor will be done soon and i need a torque converter! where is a reliable place to buy one at? The truck will be used for mud bogging mostly. Thanks for any help

hughes performance!

ran some TCI and destroyed their stators/converters. Even tried to upgrade converter with their reccomendations and still destroyed. very expensive. so I gave hughes performance a call from a reccomendation from a friend. I'm running a XTM 43 converter. more for towing and performance. around 1700 stall in my application, 472 big block stout motor. I ran the same upgrade e40d and then later upgraded to the lowgear kit from TCI with the better planetarys and torrington bearing roller kit. freeing up hrspwr. Very pleased. torque converter no! www.hughesperformance.com go to site and input your information of your application and vehicle and what your trying to do. they will get back with you or give them a call and tell them what you want to do. Next question is what is your applicaiton?

Im looking at an fti torque converter, but i also will call hughes for more information. i dont want an off the shelf converter thats gonna cause me problems half way thru the season. i am glad for the help, thanks

mudd bogger?

Well my next question is mudd bogger slash town driver?? So being that I've been their before. if occasional town daily driver stay below 2500rpm stall. If above 3000 stall your gonna eventually burn down your tranny. Personal experience. It was fun for awhile but eventually burned it down. So if full on mudder go with some stall. But if driver and mudder 2200 stall to maybe 2500 stall at most, be careful. Also tranny cooler and extra capacity tranny pan also is a must. If you get caught in a slow driving situation might accidently burn it down, also personal experience on this one also. Also have you considered a manual shift c-6. Some manual kits have no hold back on 1st gear and normal at 2nd and 3rd. meaning when you let of gas in 1st your truck kinda goes into neutral until you accelerate. I personally like holdback in first especially when coming down hills and don't have to work the brakes. One of the things I've learned in muddrags is you usually don't need as much stall compared to street due to the lack of traction compared to street. usually a little easier to spin a tire in mud than a hot summer day in texas on street. things to consider when choosing your converter. Hope I could help. Another company is PATC transmission. 888-877-1088. never used these guys but have heard good things. Good website to check out also if lookin for oddball parts.

i doubt i ever drive it in town, but it does have plates and insurance. It has a tci reverse manual valve body in it. i already have a summit aluminum pan thats holds an extra 2 quarts, and a tranny cooler with a fan, that will be mounted behind the seat. i will look into patc also, thanks
