My truck would not even turn over during lunch hour today so I had to use a screw driver on the relay under the hood with the key on....Figured it was the ignition lock cylinder or what ever its called...
So, I took my old ignition lock cylinder out with no issues at all....The problem I am having now is the new ignition lock cylinder, "will not slide in all the way."
Any Ideas? Other then taking a hammer to it lol. Any one else had this issue?
I returned the new cylinder and got a different one. Still having the same issue. I then returned the newest one and got my money back...Figured I need to pull a steering column out of a junked truck and go from there.....
The old Ignition switch cylinder slides in with no issues......Just the new ones I am having issues with.... Almost made my thumb bleed trying to pull the new out to get the old one back in.

Thanks
I just did one of these the other day. You have to take the old ignition cylinder out while the key is in the on position. Then pull out the cylinder and put in the new one make sure you don't remove the key or turn the new cylinder until you insert it into the ignition hole.
I'v replaced the Cylinder maybe 4 or 5 times since I bought the truck new in 92'.... "The problem is not getting the old one out or back in." It is the new Cylinder, "getting it pushed in all the way." Still needs about 1/4 inch.
yea it's a 92' model. The cranking issue went away once I pulled the old cylinder out and put it back in....Although, If I ever want to replace it with a new one, "I will not be able to." With the issue that I am currently having.
Really the only thing the key cylinder does is lock the key cylinder and cause the dinner to doing with the key in, any problems with starting are probably related to something else in the steering column or under the hood or if a manual transmission related to the clutch pedal sensor.... If it's an automatic transmission is actually going all the way into park??? My 94 did that, loose torques bolts under the dash on the shifter linkage.
I just replaced this on my son's '95 F150 and had the same issue. The problem is the little button that you push in to release the lock cylinder - it doesn't go up inside automatically like the original did. I had to turn the key to "on" and then manually push the little button (on the lock cylinder) up in it's hole.
