Ignition Lock Cylinder

My ignition switch in my stering column fell apart this past week end during the cold weather . Was wondering what is involved in changing out the ignition lock cylinder. The new ignition lock cylinder comes with transponder key and must use scan tool with anti-theft security access for installation. Do you have to use a scan tool and why.

Somebody is trying to sell you the wrong cylinder.

SuperDutys (of your year) DO NOT use transponder-type keys! Some of the Excursions use them, however.

Find another supplier! One who is more honest. It will be MUCH cheaper!

Here's how to do it:

Here's one for sale for $33:

Yup
just need to remove the steering collumn cover, then with the ignition cylinder in the "on" position, the button should be able to be pushed in. then all you do is pull the cylinder out.
turn the new cylinder to the on position and slide it in, turn it to off and the button pops out and your done.

quick version on an explorer the sd is about the same but button may be on the top, im not sure
