can anyone give me the low down on CHT sensor? this is an '06 5.4l ; L engine. I've read this rascal can cause some crazy symptoms. I've got random misfires (no codes) ; checked by unplugging inj. & coil terminal plugs. have done the complete tune-up thing, swapped coils & injectors to other cylinders, comp. ck 130ish across all. right now it's missing on 8,5,3.
I just don't know how this thing works. have been told it could go into like a limp mode. can I jumper it to test? or how would I test it? I thank you for any suggestions or comments.
Your conditions must have DTC's triggered even if only in the "pending" category. If you're not yet retrieved the codes then that would be your first and best bet.
While your misfires could be related to the CHT sensor its not very likely. There could be issues with spark plug boots or the plugs themselves, the COP wiring harness connectors or perhaps the injector connectors.
For a more thorough discussion of this maybe post this in the V8 Modular Motor forum too----lots of great knowledge to be found there.
Never had a problem with the CHT sensor acting up and causing a limp mode. If you have random misfires, low power, and a flashing check engine light my first guess would be that the catalytic converter is plugged. I pull the left side down stream sensor out and go for a test drive. If power is back after that, then the cat is plugged. Replace with Eastern Catalytic aftermarket for the best price.
