Went to Checker Auto for OBD II. Got these codes. 02 sensor heater circuit malfunction and NO. 1 misfire. Question: Haynes says P0141= "Downstream heated 02 sensor heater circuit fault
bank 1" Do I just replace 02 sensor or is there a downstream component? Is bank 1 the side with CYL 1? They say it's sensor no. 2 on bank 1? Whats it all about? Then the No. 1 misfire: is that caused by the sensor or plug or wire problem?
Thanks alot. ready to replace O2 bank 1 $50. yes/no.
97 F150 5.4....100,700mi
Reason for checking: check eng lite on/runs rough sometimes.
Is FORD the greatest engineering Co. or what? They actually say that if the computer cant get message from 02 sensor the computer will send stored values to the injectors to continue with proper fuel/air mix. Buy the truck, buy the stock.
Usually a P0141 is caused by the sensor.
Sensor 2 is the one behind the catalytic convertor (downstream of the convertor) on bank 1 which is the bank with cylinder #1...the passenger's side.
P0301 means a misfire on #1 cylinder. How old are your sparkplugs?
With a lot of the sensors on the engine if the PCM sees a reading it doesnt like it will fake it by plugging in stored values so you can make it home and get it fixed.
Thank you very much. Now that its off warantee I will have to replace plugs myself (on retirement pension) If I can find them. You cant see the plugs anymore on trucks. I know that its coil on plug. Got to read the book. Hope I dont have to pull the engine and rear seat!!!!!!!!!! Doing sensor today
Looks like it takes some time (2hrs) think Ill just do the No. 1 in trouble code for now. Clear codes and see. Looking hard at 04 SC 4x4. thanks again Racerguy
for your time
Cant get it loose and if I could I couldnt reach the connector.
I got a guy with a lift that will do it cheap? I tried it while hot and its a little smaller than 7/8. Started to round. probably MM size or?
Im not going to take exhaust loose. If I go back at it with a beer
can I splice it?
A 7/8 is the right size for the sensor. They are sometimes pretty tight though. Maybe a parts store will lend you a proper O2 socket.
And what do you want to splice?
I would get a genuine Ford sensor that just plugs right in.
Oh ok now I gotcha.
No dont splice the wires. There are 2 white wires and 2 black wires that go to the sensor and they are easily mixed up.
It's not really easy to get to the connector but with some patience and luck you'll get it
