Starter Motor Removal

Hello guys....need a little help on removing my starter motor from my '06 Powerstroke F350 4WD. I am sure this subject has been discussed before, but I can't find a link to it when I do a forum search. So please help me. I have been able to get the bottom and side cap bolts out...but that top cap bolt is a real booger. I have tried every combination of socket sets I can come up with, but I just can't get that bolt to break loose (no leverage to break the torgue - no room to work - dang design engineers). Surely someone out there has done this or knows how to do it. I would sure appreciate some help and suggestions. The battery terminal on the solenoid has broken off and I need to pull the starter assembly and replace the solenoid. Thanks

It will probably be just as cost efficient to replace the whole starter vs. just the solenoid. You can get great replacements for about the cost of the solenoid.

AFA getting to the bolt, I use a socket and 6" extension to get mine off. You just need to be careful of or disconnect the batteries when you loosen the cable.

Or I have been hearing good things about using a 6.4 starter for quicker starts.

Or a NAPA starter for zippier crank overs. Ford 6.0 OEM sucks, Oh plus they freakin' fall out. Ask me how i know.

6.4 starter here. NICE.
To get the top bolt. 6 point with 1/4" handle and extensions seem
to fit in that space. Start with top bolt or you end up with extra tension
on the bolt from the starter hanging.
When putting it back in a magnet in the socket helps to not drop the
bolt behind the starter any a pickup magnet is handy if/when you do
drop it.
