Unbelievable!! I bought a 1/2" Husky set, 13 sockets from 7/16" to 1 3/16 ( 1/6 increment between sockets, with a ratchet, 5" extension, universal joint and a MASIVE 17" long breaker bar.
When the stupid 15/16 bolt noticed that I was serious you felt it shaking iside the motor!!!
BigRic, You are the man Dude!.
I put the bar the way you said, by the way, the handle fits in a square hole on the pasanger side of the chassis that kepp the whole thing from moving or falling. Clicked on the starter switch, the first time a loud BANG, the second time almost nothing, and THAT WAS IT, the bolt was loose, I could lose it with my hand.
By the way the bolt had a washer and there was silicone on it, seems like its a common practice.
No problem removing the damper, I did it with a cheappy extractor, Now I'm loosening the oil pan screws so I can remove the timing chain cover without damaging the oil pan gasket, which is the single part rubber-silicone kind.
I plan to change the damper seal also adn probably the timing chain and gears. This motor with 172 K miles has never been repaired and this gives me the creeps since I fear I will end up a major overhaul.
THanks
The husky set is a keeper, It's better to invest in tools than in a mechanic.
hey guys ive developed a leak in my water pump so im gonna need to change it ... im a college kid who just changed his bottom radiator hose in the dorm parkinglot ... do i try to tackle this project myself ... or would i be wiser goin to a reasonably pricved mechanic?
Changing the water pump is pretty straightforward, but do be aware that some of the bolts could break off. If that is the case, then you may not have the necessary resources available in the dorm parking lot to finish the job.
The job doesn't require much more than a few sockets, a wrench or two, something to scrape gasket and silicone away, and a big bucket to catch coolant.
lol yeah ... i did make a nice puddle last week changing the radiator hose ... mabey ill talk to a mechanic i know and see if i can chang it in his parking lot and if i screw something up see if he'll bale me out hehehehe thanks bigric
if there is any bolt showing ,try to weld a peice on it and see if it will come out ..might work it worked on my header bolt ..hope it helps yea...good luck
