I'm having a problem with my ac, what happens is, ac will start blowing ambient temp, but if i accelerate, I can hear what i think is a damper door slamming shut. Its not the blend damper ( the 1 by heater core behind glove box) I had it in shop 2 times last yr and they didnt fix it, didnt charge me anything but still . I changed out vacum pump, tested vacum canister & couldn't find any vacuum leaks, Any help would be appreciated, maybe someone can point me in the right direction, thanks Howard
I can't be much help on this because I haven't experienced it, but my 03 F350 wasn't getting cold unless I drove it around for awhile and forget about stop and go traffic. It was just low on R134a. Also another problem with the systems are the mechanical fans, they can't pull the heat off the coils, a lot of guys have switched over to electric A/C fans to get their systems to work better.
As for your blend door not closing until you accelerate, It tells me that you do have a vacuum leak somewhere and it may be in the controller that closes the door, a diaphragm may have a slight hole in it that it can't fully open or close with out the added pull of vacuum when accelerating. I'm just guessing here, hopefully someone with A LOT more experience can answer you.
I did forget to say what kind of truck it was, 2002, F250, power stroke. I traced the vacum lines I could find, i have not replaced them though. There is a small inline diaphragm close to the blend door, looked good. I had a buddy check freon & it was good. Im lost, I dont know much about AC stuff. It is not the blend door behind glove box, I secured it & problem was still happening. One thing I did notice, is, the hotter it gets the more it happens. When the damper slams shut, it sounds like it is in the middle of dash or on firewall, thanks for the help. I have looked on Internet for a diagram of where it mite be, but no luck, I am computer illiterate
