question on soft mounting jag IFS
Gents, I have just fitted up a Jag front into my '54 and am wondering what other guys have done to mount the front support bars of the jag to their chassis.
I've got the original bolt and spacer which slips through the rubber support of the jag, but wondered whether anyone has fabbed up something interesting to support it?

Peter,
On the 48-52 the frame rails are pinched near the front cab mounts with an outside measurement of 32" frame rail to frame rail such that the rear Jag mounts "fall under" the frame rails. On the 53 and up, the frame rail outer measurement is 34" such that there is more fabrication required to create a rear mount . Hopefully someone will respond that has a soft mount on a 53-56. You will also probably want/need to notch the frame at the upper A arm to clear the frame rails for installation or removal.
For ease of soft mounting, the 48-52 has the advantage. For tire to wheel well clearance, the 53-56 has the advantage. (see my thread on 48-52 wheel and tire clearance with the Jag)

Yes, believe it or not, this was not the way I was intending to do it. I wanted to soft mount it and thought this was the right way. Now I have it bolted and realise that there are rear rubber mounts that needed to be used instead of the bolts. How thick am I? I just never thought about it, but now I can see exactly what I need.
It's not too late to unbolt it and mount it the soft way. Just a lot of time.
Thanks guys

Yeah. A lot of work has gone into that. At the end of the day, probably not a huge lot of difference. Just disappointed that I hadn't asked a few more questions beforehand. It's in there now. I'll get over it
Nah. Thought about it for a few hours. Decided it was worth stripping back down again....
Call this a learning exercise!

Peter,
I am not sure of exactly what you are saying about the rear mount. Your picture shows the jag just under the frame not attached to the frame. Is the rear currently bolted (without the jag soft mount) directly to the frame, i.e. no rubber between them? If that is the case and you create soft front mounts, you will work the hard mount until it ultimately fails since the front soft mount had some "give". I apologize if I misunderstand your setup.
You need to either soft mount all 4 points or totally weld it in.

Hi Bill. Yes, it's not clear with the amount of info given. But the problem was, I blew a gasket in my brain and forgot to have the rear mounts fabbed up. Instead it was bolted, so yes, I have to basically pull these bolts out and do it again. A fair bit of work, but I love working on this truck (detect the sarcasm?). It probably doesn't mean a whole lot, but I wanted it soft mounted, so out she comes again.

I understand and admire your willingness to do it the way you want it, no matter what it involves. I don't think you were here when I ended up dropping my trans I think it was about 7 times b4 I got it working and the way I wanted it. But it was funny and worth it when done. Good luck, you will get it perfect, of that I am sure.
