i was putting on my steering wheel the other day in my 69 f-250 camper special and couldn't get it to go flush, there was a 1/8 in gap between the steering wheel and the colum so just kept on tighting to try to get ride of the gap, still haven't got ride of the gap but the nut is all the way down and turns freely and won't come off. am i screwed or what i am going to try to get the nut off without breaking anything . i think i will change the signal switch while i am there, found out you can't get a good switch in a wrecking yard. i got bthe old switch all hooked up except the little two terminal plug in which i guess goes to the rear lights mine was missing on the old switch.
Locate a "nut splitter" tool. If bolts and nuts get rusted around your town in WA then someone will carry it. Sears,Ace,Home Depot,Lowes, etc. Use it to remove the nut. Now question is which threads are stripped? The shaft's or the nut's?
What's wrong with a 1/8" gap?
i got the nut off today but stiil couldn't get the steering wheel off, probably the only time it will come off is on the freeway at 70 mph,i think i need to go get one from the wrecking yard it is only 25 bucks if i can find one.

You should test that theory when you go to the wrecking yard.
