2000 Expedition engine noises
I just purchased a 2000 Expedition from a friend/neighbor-I had noticed that when he drove it lately, it was sounding like a steam engine, what with all of the noise from the right side lifters. I wasn't deterred from buying since I'm a FORD man and just unloaded the '97, F-250.
I was getting the codes- PO171, PO174, PO301, PO302..
Anyway, I ordered new plugs and new coil assembly's. I had replaced the PCV valve and grommet, changed the oil & added Marvels Mystery Oil and some Barr's leak additive stop leak, checked the Rubber Elbow in the back. No change in noise at all, may have gotten louder.
So, the day before changing the plugs & coils I was driving and something POPPED and I seemed to lose power-I figured it was the coil assy gone bad, so I limped back home.
Last night I changed all of the plugs, to my dismay only 2 had previously needed a thread kit but the old plugs had gaps ranging from 40 to 60...
I was expecting the engine to purr like a kitten after replacing all of those parts, however it is as if nothing changed, AND it sounds like a marble is pinging around inside the upper manifold sometimes, and during the test drive, we still had power loss.. I NEED YOUR HELP!!! Thanks, Chuck..
However, I did creep around the under side of the truck, and once I got near the Cat converter she was growling really good. So, I'm about to change the gaskets and see what we have next..
