Hello, I have been experiencing a problem with my 97 f250, 160,000 trouble free miles. Last week my truck began miss-firing to the point that I could barely drive it to the shop. My mech. said the intake manifold had a very slow leak in it and woul leak fluid into the sparkplug well causing a short. The gasket was replaced and the coil/wire was replaced at that time (#5 cyl.). The miss returned the other day and the computer indicated a miss on #8. All of the plugs were replaced then. On the way home from the shop the miss returned again.
What could be causing the miss fires?
Did ALL of the plug wires get replaced along with the plugs?
As I understand it, the V8's have individual coil packs, which I don't have any experiance with. It seems unreasonable to think that several of them just decided to go bad at the same time.
Using deductive reasoning it seams that if you've fixed the manifold leak (which I'm suspicous about, by the way), replaced the plugs and wires, and still get a mis-fire on random cylinders, then the electronic ignition module should be under suspicion.
