bad bed shake on small bumps

Hey everyone. I'm new here and just had a question for someone whos more knowledgeable on these trucks then I am. I just picked up a 2010 f150 xtr 4x4 few weeks ago and I notice the bed shake is pretty bad when hitting small bumps int he road. I watch in my rear view mirror and it seems the drivers side is doing all the shaking, and the passenger side of the box seems solid (minimal movement like a truck should). It only shakes on bumps and does not increase with speed or anything so im assuming its Not my tires? I can literatly feel the shaking in my feet in sync as i watch the box rattle in my rear view. Also look at my passenger seat and it looks like a vibrating chair, an extreme one. I got under the truck everything looks solid, checked all the bed bolts are tight, i honestly have no clue at this point. I use to have a 2000 ranger and honestly I find the box shake on my new 2010 is just as bad as my old truck. My brother and cousin both have 2011 f150's and i find theres to ride alot nicer than mine. My truck is a supercab and theirs are crew cabs, however i don't see it making that big of a difference in ride? Checked tire pressures i have 30lbs in the back tires and 35 in the front. Any ideas what this could be? Like it said its only on bumps, doesn't start shaking on a smooth road, so im expecting some sort of bad suspension component? Any help is appreciated

trucks only got 70,000km on it you think the shocks would be bad? Its crossed my mind. In all honesty id be happy if it was just the shocks as they are relatively cheap and easy to change. Is there any way of confirming the shocks are bad? ive tried the old test of pushing on the corners and checking for bounce, and it seemed fine.

Try grabbing underneath the wheel well or somewhere else on that side and try lifting the bed up. You said that you checked the bed bolts, but it's worth a try to see if it has any play.

I have tried to shake the box and it seems solid the whole truck moves when i try and rock it . I checked all the u bolts on the axle to make sure their tight, and they are. All the bushings look good. I also just had the truck in the garage to have it inspected, the mechanic said the whole truck looks good, only thing i changed was a front ball joint/control arm. I know somewhere there's something wrong, i've driven many of these f150s and my bed shake seems excessive, on the drivers side anyway. Passenger side seems fine when i watch it

This may sound simple but have you ruled out that your mirror glass isn't shaking?

Yeah Ive had passengers look in the rear window and ask them if looks like one side bounces more than the other. everyone has said yes. Its a pretty significant bounce maybe 3/4-1". Dont matter if i use rear view or side mirror, same thing.

Check for a bent wheel or a bad tire.

Ill check, but I highly doubt its the issue. The tires are brand new as well, but I know that doesnt mean much either. If I hit a section of smooth pavement the truck rides good so it makes me think its not really a balance or tire issue. Seemed like it was worst yesterday when I took it for a ride. The slightest crack int he road, small cracks filled with tar, is enough to make the bed shake pretty bad. at times i almost think my 2000 ranger with torsion bars rode better. Im going to try and jack the back of the truck, spin the wheels, and check for any shakes or wobbles.

I'd vote for the 1st response you got; from Qwktrip.
Shocks. It's a used truck, and you don't know how it's been used.
And in my unprofessional experience, the symptoms are classic bad shocks.
Maybe not all, but at least some of them.

You said you checked them the old fashioned way by pushing on them.
I don't see that as valid as truck springs are so firm, unless you weight 800 lbs, you're
not going to be able to compress them.

You're going to need new ones sooner or later. Get them now, and get some
advise from this forum on a good choice for your style of driving.

However, start a new threat for that advise. Don't ask a new question within
this thread. It won't get the attention you want.

I know this is an old thread but I have the same bed shake in my 09. New shocks made it worse because the new shocks are stiffer. Box jiggles around like its on jello. Shakes the whole truck. No problem on smooth roads. All bolts are as tight as I can get them. I know the bushings are wore out on the harmonic damper. (Large steal brick mounted on the frame at the back.) Would just the damper not working cause this much bed shake?

Bed Shakes

This must be a long time problem with Fords. My 2016 Reg Cab hasn’t broke 10,000 miles yet and this problem is annoying! Little bumps turn into 5 - 8 seconds of the shakes!

All you have to do is pound on top of the bed rail a few times and watch the bedside jiggle like jello. I don't believe its the shocks, this is the 2nd truck in this generation own that does this. I watched another truck going down the interstate do that and noticed that mine does it as well, thats when I got curious and randomly hit the top of the bedrail and saw a small replication of what was going on when it goes down the road.
