64 F100 Automatic shift steering column

64 F100 Automatic shift steering column
I have a question guys. I have searched this topic for a while and not really seen a clear answer.
My truck has a 3 on the tree manual column. I want to put in an automatic tranny but dont want to put the shifter on the floor. I know that the 64 auto column is hard to find so... does anyone know where I can get one or does anyone know what kind of column will fit in the truck right with modifications? Has anyone on here cut the steering shaft above the box and installed a "rag joint" to put in a different year and or model column? Thanks.

Welcome to FTE and good luck with your project. If you look at the drop down choices on the forum page: 1961 - 1966 F-100 & Larger F-Series Trucks - just above and to the right of the first "thread", you will see a drop down that says "Search This Forum". Click on the down arrow it and it gives you the choice to show threads, posts, and advanced search. I put "steering" and said "show posts" and up comes pages and pages of info. Try this with different key words and you will find lots of info. I have found this the best way yo search FTE. Good luck -

If I find an automatic column I would be willing to sell it but if I can't find anything to work I will just leave it in. I'll let you know. Thanks

1961/64: The steering shaft goes directly into the gearbox, so to remove the steering column, you also have to remove the gearbox along with it.
1963/64 F100/250 A/T (FX Cruise-O-Matic) steering column is the same. 1961 F100/250 A/T (Ford-O-Matic) steering column is different than 1962 A/T (FX Cruise-O-Matic) steering column.
1961/62 F100/250 2WD uses a different T/S switch than 1963/64 F100/250 2WD
1963/64 F100/250 A/T (FX Cruise-O-Matic) steering column is the same. 1961 F100/250 A/T (Ford-O-Matic) steering column is different than 1962 A/T (FX Cruise-O-Matic) steering column.
