Hello, I have a 351m bolted to a c6. I have a new holley 4160 carb on it.
When i bought the truck it had the same engine and trans but had the stock 2barrel carb. Now my kickdown lever wont reach.
What did you guys do to correct this problem? Is the an adapter kit or something or do i have to make one? I know i cant be the only one wit this issue
Holley makes an extension, it's expensive for what it is but not as bad as those cables. http://www.jegs.com/i/Holley/510/20-41/10002/-1
Also, on the C6, the kickdown linkage isn't critical to the trans operation. If its not hooked up, all you lose is the kickdown to passing gear. Unlike other transmissions, this linkage doesn't control line pressure, that's what the vacuum modulator is for.
I had to drill a new hole for the pin on the throttle on mine. 1/4" toward the rear from the existing hole. Otherwise it was too long. 79 460 installed a 4160 also.
I just run without the kickdown cause I hated how it interfered with the throttle linkage... I may just get that little adapter and see how it works! Thanks Mike. $6 and change, that a couple cups of coffee, may as well try it!
Had the same problem on mine, wound up measuring carefully and making an extension for the kiskdown rod out of aluminum strap. There is no real stress on it so you don't need tons of strength, it just needs to be firmly fixed to the end of the rod. Probably took 10 minutes to make. Be sure to take your measurement from full travel on the throttle to almost full travel on the transmission lever - you don't want it downshifting the trannie every 10 seconds.
The two barrel has one throttle shaft while the 4bbl has two and since it's centered about the same, that moved the shaft with accelerator linkage forwards.
I had the exact same issue on my '77 F150 with C-6 when I added the Edelbrock intake and Holley carb back in the '80s ..... and it works with the current Edelbrock carb.
I made an extension. The material is steel, the holes 5/16". Fastens to stock Ford C-6 kickdown. The extension length was calculated by holding the carb at WOT and pushing the kick down back and measuring. You want that kickdown travel used up at WOT.
Definitely helps me bear, I swapped to a eddy and I haven't looked into it enough to figure out where the kickdown went. Just compared my old Holley and scratched my head
