Hey Y'all!
Been looking around this site for a while...found some good stuff here so I figured I'd join!
I've got a 73 F100 custom (owned for almost 20yrs, first truck!) and now
I've just acquired a really nice 77 F350 2wd Supercab longbed 460/ C6. It's bone stock...so lots of room to deplete my bank account on her
Just replaced the autolite boat anchor with a small 500cfm Carter/AFB that I had off a 66 FE motor. First problem is that it hit the intake and needed to be spaced up.
Added a 4 hole spacer under it and all is well, EXCEPT for the kickdown lever...too short and not bent at the right angle to line up with any holes in the linkage.
What is the best method to get the trans kickdown and the throttle to:
A: Not collide from being almost in the same mount point
B: Adjusted so it is in the right "zeroed" position when I get the new attachment figured out
Do I need to buy an adapter plate for the carb arm or what?
They can be a problem, I bent mine a few years ago and never did get it to work right. I finaly just left it disconnected, won't hurt anything, you just won't have a passing gear to help suck in more gas. A cable conversion may work, I 'v never used one. You may try connecting to the carb and then extend the lower end.that hooks to the tranny. Sorry I can't help more than that , I'm going to keep checking back to see what everybody comes up with. Good luck. JIM
On second thought , it may hit the fire wall if you raise the carb. end. A cable may be best.

Reason: added more
Unfortunately, the kickdown linkage is always a pain with an aftermarket carburetor, as Jim explained. If you don't mind having to downshift yourself (if you even find yourself needing to), you can just leave it off. If you're set on using it, the best option would probably be a cable conversion which you can get from Lokar. I imagine it would be a pain to try to fabricate linkage for it.
I figured with as many 460's as there are out there, this would have been solved by now
Guys at my transmission shop told me that there should be an adapter plate for edelbrocks that should work...although I cannot find such an animal. They also mentioned the Lokar cable, but I was hoping for a little more factory fix!
I'll wait to see who else chimes in...maybe there is still a magic answer out there
They are mainly used for when you go from a 2bl to 4bl because the intake is a little taller but it may work for you. The extension bolts on your kick down rod and makes it a little longer.
From my personal experience, you can spend two or three times the money trying to fabricate something, or you can just save a whole lot of time and money by buying the manufactured part right up front.
LOKAR makes quality pieces and they provide great tech support. The piece works. I have it on my truck. Save yourself a whole bunch of headaches.

HP246: Do you have any pix of how the brackets attach on either end? Curious what the transmission side looks like and how complete the "C6 kit" actually is...
I bent mine and it works quite well, needed to bend the front part up and then behind that bend it back down to make it a little longer, took a few tries but it works great.., just make sure it doesn't hang up anywhere..
The Lokar kit uses a cable rather than a rod, so it is easily adaptable. Sorry, no I don't have any pictures, but if you go to Lokar's site and do a search, they have the directions for installation online along with diagrams.
wdfp:
Did you have the factory intake and what kind of carb? Since I spaced mine up to clear, I'm not sure I can make it that much longer! Already misses by almost 3 inches...
Good news if it will though!
Thanks!
Think I'll be ordering the Lokar setup...it's pretty slick.
Now how do you get that cruise cable connector on the throttle? Mine is a threaded shaft linkage from the pedal to the carb...is this a newer year model setup?

Thanks for the input so far!
there is a edelbrock part number 1483 that is for the kickdown
Oddly enough my truck has the kickdown rod and a bracket that holds inline off the back of the block. I have the edelbrock carb. On the 73 I had I bought the lokar kit and it worked great. I would recomend that.
