My CAC tube blew a couple of days ago. Thought my trailer came loose or an axle fell off. Damn they're loud.
It was the upper clamp, upper boot, hot side. Took a couple of tries and re-blows before I got it to stay.
Then, yesterday the lower clamp, same boot blows. Again, I screw up and don't get it to stay the first time. But, it's holding now; however, I'm keeping my foot out of the turbo, nothing over 10lbs.
What's the current thinking on getting them to stay on? I just bought that boot from the dealer a couple of months ago. Should I be worried that my vanes are sticking? The truck seems to run fine. Maybe I need to install that drain tube for my valve cover vent.
Myn did the same thing before the oil residue on the boot/intercooler popped into my mind. A shot of brake clean on a rag to wipe it off and hasnt fallen off since. (knock on wood)
I was in a hurry when changing them out.
Clean off the oil with brake clean or carb cleaner, then give it a coat of hair spray and assemble. The hair spray turns sticky and helps hold everything together. Don't laugh it works.
Until I got m Riff-Racc boots I used superglue after cleaning it off brakecleaner. Stayed on until my New ones came in which was another 2k + miles. As a result superglue is now part of my road kit.
