My intake tube on the turbo keepy blowing off where the metal tube meets the short blue vinyl like tube. i got a new clamp but i think my metal tube has been tighten to much and allowing this to slip off...Since that area where the tubes meet, can i use an epoxy to hold the two together and put the clamp on top...i dont see why it would not work but wanted your help before i did it...
Clean all the oil off with brake clean or another solvent, then put it back together and torque the clamp to spec, 11 ft-lb. I stopped at 9 ft-lbs because it seemed too tight at that point and I've never had a blowoff. I think most people that tighten them without a torque wrench don't get them tight enough.
I used contact cement, hairspray was still too slippery.
From the factory it was a solid seal all the way around, I had to really work at prying the tube away from the silicone sleeve.
The best fix is new silicone sleeves.
What Benchwrench said. Save yourself a lot of trouble and just buy a new one. It's expensive, but having them blow off sucks. I cleaned mine thoroughly and torqued it properly and it still blew off. I finally purchased a new one, and it is a lot more rigid than the old one.
There is new boots that have a red inner liner that are better than the blue stock ones. There is also a bracket that can be purchased that clamps to the pipe and bolts to the alternator. Helps hold it so it can't blow off. I think I saw one once that was around $50. I made one myself out of .32 stainless and it has worked great. I can get a pic up if anyone wants to see it.
i have the new boot that is red inside..it seems that the guy who owned this before me tighten it to much. i would like to see the bracket....i put two new clamps on last might so ill cjeck it and see..

I click on the "user cp" menu item and then click on "pictures and albums". I then add an album. In doing so it asks to upload the pics. Once you do, you can click on the pic you want to post and it will give you the url to copy and paste in your post.
