So today I drove the truck today finally give the C series a road and wouldn't you know it. The symptoms of a bad coil maybe a faulty ign. module came back to haunt my truck. I've just about had it. I thinks it's time to upgrade the ignition I want to get a DUI as much as the next guy but right now that's out of the picture for me right now. I've been reading up on the Mallory Hyfire 6AL looks to be a nice upgrade. Any thoughts?
I tried the gm module. It is cheap and easy to install. It was, however, a noticeable drop in performance from my msd box.
I would use the Mallory box. That will allow you to use their 60,000 volt coil too. But for that you need good wires. You will still need the DS2 module to trigger it. I recently changed mine. Get the oem motocraft one NOS on ebay. The high quality cheap Chinese C... elsewhere will last a couple of years. Make sure your dizzy shaft has zero play. Don't buy the Cardone rebuilds, I mean Cardone washing service.
You will be Very happy with performance using the Mallory.

If you want a stock feel, go with the GM 4 pin.
Finally yes that's the answer I was looking for. How exactly did you hook up your MSD box. I thought the ign box would eliminate the ds2 module? I found out the other day that MSD bought out Mallory.
The MSD comes with book showing you how to wire it. Here is the diagram I use.
The ground is crucial. I grounded right to the frame. They don't like heat.
On a side note: I have heard nothing but good things about Mallory. I have used the msd for five years w/o issue. The only thing is that the cap and rotor are not optimal for so much juice and fowl after 6 months. So... I bought the borg warner from O'reiley's with a life time warranty and change them twice a year for free. Just use the contact grease when installing and it takes 5 minutes.
