Hi guys, long time user, first time poster in the 6 section. I have a 1990 F150 I changed the oil from my winter 10w-30 to summer time 10w-40 and now when ever I start the truck it has no oil pressure for 3-5 seconds, red CEL comes on, gauges is at zero and it sounds like a power stroke then it planes out and runs perfect. It does have 312K ( most miles I've ever had on a 6 ) my past 300 I have run the same oil, same filter and never had an issue. Any idea how I could resolve this? I am currently rebuilding another 300 to throw in the truck but I would like this engine to last at least another 6-12 months. Any ideas??
Hi cherrybomb,
What oil filter did you use? Some oil filters don't have a good drain-back valve to keep oil up in the engine, so when you start it up the next morning, it's dry. I had this problem when I used Fram oil filters. When I switched to a Motorcraft, the problem went away.
Took the advice, bought a motorcraft filter swapped out the fram, now she has oil pressure on every start. I have always ran fram PH8A filters on my 6's without issues but now I will be running the motorcraft.
My Walmart was out of the motorcraft filters when I stopped by so I picked up a Purolator. I've always had good luck with those as a second best to OEM. It's amazing that Fram is still in business, stuff is junk.
