Have to change the oil thursday before my VA trip. What is preferences do you all have on oil and filters? I used filters from the local international dealer last time and I can't remember what oil but was wondering if one type of oil is better than another. thanks
I learned along time ago while there are a lot of different brands and viscosities. The single most important detail about oil and your engine, is that you have some in it. I doest matter what kind as even the wrong kind is better than none. But when it comes to brands I use Rotella or royal purple depending on the application.
alot of people you talk to will use rotella cause you can get it pretty easy ... its mostly personal prefrence and what has happened to you in the past with different brands... personally i use donaldson filters (16 dollars) and caterpillar DEO 15W- 40 and oil sample it everytime i change the oil...
Last oil change I used Motorcraft filter and Motorcraft 15w40 diesel oil... probably go with valvoline or rotella next time. My dad ran Amzoil in his '96 PSD and runs it in his '05 Dodge Cummins now. Love Amzoil but it's too spendy and hard to get a hold of.
Anyone using the K&N oil filters? I know the air filters are bad for our trucks but are the oil filters good?
thanks all i used rotella and i went with fleetgaurd filters. a friend of mine works at a trucking company and get a very good discount. thanks for the input i just wanted to make sure there wasnt a brand to stay away from.
