Started the truck after work and I have a knocking noise. It sounds like it's coming from bell housing. But it is very hard to tell cuz the truck is so noisy.
I have a video of the noise but not sure how to attach it.. Any help would be great!
It's a steady knocking. It stays the same whether idling or accelerating. My buddy ran contribution test and low contribution/balance from cylinder 8. They buzz test came back all injectors are good 😕
Don't let the bad results from cylinder 8 scare you. The way the CCT test is run, and the way the CPS reads cylinder positions often cause it to report a fault in cylinders 8 and/or 3.
As for uploading videos, I just made an account on youtube, then you can attach the link in your post using the little earth with a chain link button. If you don't want to create a youtube account, pm me. I'll give you my email and I can upload it.
I wouldn't pull the heads until I've identified the offending cylinder, but that's me. Did you spin the push rods to see if they are all straight? I would get a temperature gun and see if there are any hot/cold cylinders. I would also get a mechanic's stethoscope (cheap ones available at the Irish auto parts store) to make an attempt to isolate the noise.
I might be familiar with every knock an injector can make, but this sounds different. THat's not to say it can't be an injector - it could be a new noise I hadn't heard yet, or your phone didn't catch the sounds I'd need to hear.
I did not spin the push rods but I did notice some wear on some of the rods. Also some wear on #7 rocker. I will get the stethoscope and try to pin point the noise. It is so hard on these noisy things. I unplugged each injector one at a time and sound got lower but never went away.
Mine is doing the EXACT SAME thing! Now SUDDENLY it has long crank time. Not anything unusual but out of no where it dosent want to start. This morning when I got off work it let out a nice puff of white smoke. Seemed to be 'missing' After the 100 yard drive to the end of the parking lot it seemed to be running fine. After I got to town it seemed to give power at random intervals. Will these store codes and not turn on the check engine light? Im sorry, im not trying to hijack this thread Im just freaking out because I sank every expendable dollar into this 'dependable' vehicle.
That sounds like an internal oil leak or an IPR issue. Check the tin nut on your IPR, to make sure it's snug (not overly-tight). If the IPR is OK, you may need a Cody test (searchable on this forum).
