Problem is whatever you do to the exhaust you will have to undo to pass your state inspection. Unless they don't inspect emmissions. if you replace only the DPF and install a tuner then the reversal will take only an hour or so. once you've done it it's pretty easy. If you start taking other parts of the exhaust off then you make it much harder. I am not deleted but was with my 6.4 and this truck doesn't look much different. Trust me, if you get the DPF out of the way you will have all the power and noise you want.
I know that this thread was posted a while ago, but I was wondering if you may have had any additional info on this. I may be ignorant and just don't understand. According to the DMV website, only diesel vehicles newer than 1996, with a GVWR of less than 8,501lbs and with registration expired after July 2007 are required to have an emissions inspection. I've included a file from the website. This to me says that Heavy Duty diesel trucks aren't required to be inspected for emissions. Am I reading it wrong?

sounds like they are not inspecting trucks built after MANDATORY DPF emissions were instated. But VA is just too cloce to DC for me to be sure. Federal EPA regulations REQUIRE DPF emissions be on all diesel engined manufactured after July 2007.
