Fire Buggy
The damage isn't all that bad- the owner was outside and near the Ex when it caught fire- he already had a hose hooked up and the water on. As soon as he noticed the smoke, he popped the hood, cut the battery cable with bolt cutters and put the fire out.
It baked a little paint off the fender and hood, but it wasn't a hard burn- no warpage. The passenger side of the engine compartment is unharmed. Naturally, I'll have to replace the brake parts and anything rubber or plastic on the driver side rear of the engine compartment. No biggie.
My questions are all electrical- I'll have to replace the underhood harness (also, no biggie). But, being that it was an electrical fire and wires melted, what other problems do you think took place? I'm guessing the computer is probably toast. What other electrical issues do you foresee?
To your question, I'm not sure it would have affected the computer (I assume you're talking ECU) as the ignition wasn't turned on and I'm thinking it wouldn't have a completed circuit unless it was a big melt and a bunch of wires got acquainted. Some of the in dash electronics may be suspect though. Does the GEM always have power?
