My next task is to fix my cruise control, when I tried to engage the cruise control, the cruise light would flash in the instrument panel but now that doesn't even happen.
The modification has been completed to the switch under the brake cylinder. I need to check the continuity of the switches and check the fuse and the B+ to the computer. I've heard its on the right side of the engine compartment but haven't located it yet. If anyone could help with this I would appreciate it.
Just purchased the vehicle and the guy said it the CC never worked. I found that strange due to he was in long distance sales for large company, I enjoy my CC of hwys. The dealer did the mod.
I would really like to get a good service manual with good wiring diagram and I'm not really a cd person. Have heard some of those are "not what you think your getting" so I may just look for a book manual.
There should be some basic troubleshooting guides that get into basic voltage checking and where the computer is for the CC! If anyone could assist. I will keep looking and report back. There is many that I have read that don't have theirs working either.
2000 X, V10 4x4 140k. Hope Wallz reads this, I would really appreciate any help here. I actually had a good look around yesterday to see if I could locate anything that looked like cruise control paraphernalia, all I could locate was the brake switch which looks like it has a fairly new cable assy. It has a blue label attached mentioning it has a built in fuse that cant be changed and that you have to replace this whole cable assy. One of fords better ideas!
I would like to know if anyone has any trouble shooting information for the cruise control and some component location information. Many thanks...
Most of what I have found for my 02 in wiring seems to be different for the 00. When I had the CC problems in Dec, I was able to print off trouble shooting info from links that were available last year and are no longer available. I think that info went into the all data pay site.(and I got so frustrated that I couldn't get any were that I must of thrown it out) Most was still not helpfull, and I eventually went to dealer, and even they had difficulty to dig up info, but were able to go to the wiring on the master brake cylinder. There was a recall on that, and even tho it was switched on my truck it still became an issue. There was fluid on the wiring and it was shorting out. Once that was replaced I still had problems and they ended up having to replace the CC module. Not cheap and only one plug and a few screws holding it in. I would check that wiring first (on the brake cylinder), just pull the plug and see if you have any brake fluid on it. Have you had the truck scanned for any trouble codes. The vss will throw some, and it is also tied in, but you should show speedo problems if that was out.
Sorry for the long post. But when mine went out, it just started blowing fuses, and no blinking. Fuse 27 and 34 in my 02.
Thanks Wallz, I was wondering if that was the CC computer. I surprised there is not more about CC troubleshooting on these lists. There were many that had responded to my simple post mentioning they also had problems.
My harness that connects the brake cylinder switch to that second plug/socket is much different looking, it's the one with the internal fuse. Think I'm going to pull it apart, it's not working anyway.
I think the most helpful info would be a simple list of voltage checks to see if switches are completing a circuit and voltages are present to the computer. I am so surprised there is not more info anywhere. Oh well, see what I can do.
mine is 2002
I do not know if they have the same fuse box
When the pressure switch fails brake fluid is allowed to travel up the wire
the upgrade is supposed to fix this on mine it did not
If you have a electrical burning smell replace it immediately
the new switch looks totally differrent
if you have any other questions pm your phone # I will be happy to call you
Cant say I know what the old or new one looks like, are the any obvious things I could look for? Suppose to have had the mod done and I checked, there is no oil residue.
On vacation w/no phone in room. Wife would string me up by my ***** if I gave the cell # out Will chat when I get home... Many thanks...
Mine had the upgrade.
You do not have to see brake fluid residue.
The failure of the switch the fluid travels up the wire that is attaached to the swith.
It is a cheap fix and only takes a few minutes to do.
Definitely use a ford piece
It is fine that you don't want to give out your #
That is why I suggested you PM the # and I would call you
Thanks FWK for your interest in helping me with cruise control problem. The mod to the brake switch has been done and there is no oil residue so it is not my problem. I am a sailor and wont be home till end of month where I will want to get this fixed. Will give it some fresh thoughts and one way or the other it will be fixed. I will post results hoping it might help someone else. Thanks again, Dave...
