I got a 99 f150 5.4l 4x4 and the tires size 265-70-r17
Im changing out the end axle to disc brakes what gear ratio should i do and i know i need to change out the front axle too
Thinking about putting 33s or 35s tries on it

Hopefully the build sticker is still on the drivers side door jam. Find it, and report back on what the "code" is under AXLE......should be a letter and a number. Let us know what it is and folks will help you identify it.

Mis-read your original post Rusty, my bad. I would go as deep (High Numerical) as I possibly could afford. Not sure if your carrier will support 4.10's and higher. You may have to switch carriers for the rear, and not sure on the front....it may be limited due to it's small size as to how deep of a ratio it could support. Good Luck!

Its cool!! Because i pick up a axle for a 02 f150 crew cab and that axle code is h9 for 3.55 gear ratio Is that better then 3.73 gears

For running bigger tires/wheels, ideally you want larger numerical final drive, like a 4.10 is better for being able to move a larger wheel with a stock engine than a 3.55. The problem you will most likely run into is with the carriers (what the ring gear bolts to) is that there are different carriers that support different ratios. As the numerical number goes up, the ring gear gets thinner because of more grooves. The lower numerical number, the fatter the ring gear is because of less grooves. The thickness of the ring gear dictates which carrier you will have to use. Each carrier will fit into the stock 9.75 inch rear end, but the different gear ratios need a specific carrier.

I hope I was able to half **** explain it .

The 265 tires on the truck now are 31.5 inch diameter. 33.0 would be 1.5 inch bigger or 5% ....... 35 inch would be 3.5 inch bigger or 12% bigger.

You have 3.73 gears now........ 4.11 is .40 bigger or 10%.

3.55 ratio is too small of gears for 33 or 35 tires.

No hurt. The motor will speed up about 10%... Lets say at 60 MPH your motor is turning 1800 RPM.. After installing the 4.10 gears it will run 180 RPM faster or 1980 rpm at 60 MPH
