So I'm trying to figure out the gear ratio for my 96 F250 PSD. I know there is a way where you can mark the axle and rotate the wheel to calculate the ratio, but I won't be able to do that for a couple of weeks. I was wondering if anybody new another way to figure it out. The calibration code off the door jam is 6-90A-R02. I don't know if this is the number I need or not. Any help would be appreciated...
Unless someone changed the gears the axle tag will show the ratio. If the axle has posi then it will show as 3 L 55 or 4 L 10 without posi it will show 3 . 55 or 4 . 10 or whatever the ratio is.
I have a 97 F250 and couldn't figure out the gear ratio....On the passenger side of the truck, look under at the backside of the axle, there should be a sticker (mine was painted over with undercoating, so we used some brak - kleen to clean it off) that sticker will tell you what you need to know.
Thanks guys for all the help... ya'll know a lot... I'm gonna have a look around my truck when I get home from work and see if I can find some codes. I'll get back to ya and let you know what I find, although I might end up needing to go with the rpms @ hwy mph and tire size to try and get a calculation... We'll see...
OK I tried to check it out tonight... I may be dumb, but I cannot find an info label anywhere in the door jam, maybe it's gone? anyways I checked the back axle and the sticker looked rubbed off but it was kinda dark so i couldn't be sure... So the only thing I know is that I was running 60 mph on the highway and was at about 1950 rpms and my tires are 31.8" (32) I believe, I looked them up they are the Cooper Discoverer ATR LT265/75R16... Anyways like I said I am still learning all this stuff...
So just so I can be clear would 3.55 get better mpg than 4.10 and if you have bigger tires can't you get better mpg to a certain extent or in certain situations?
