Mine shows top of the normal range over 220, never seen it outside the normal brackets. I am surprised you didn't blow some coolant. Mine stays at 218 or 19 with fan on hard. Are you tuned?
The dash gauge is nothing more than a stepper switch that works on incremented values. The obd read out will be true numbers if the scangauge/edge are programmed correctly and no you didn't hurt it. You might want to verify that the fan is shifting into high speed.

Yes, once you hit 217 to 219 ect your fan rpm should be way up there and it should sound like a train is passing you its moving so much air. Be sure your EGR is plugged in and deleted. Otherwise this affects fan control and it doesn't step up properly.
You might also check ECT EOT and TFT at cold soak before starting to be sure yet hey are all measuring properly. Should be close to ambient air temp and all three should read within 1-2 degrees of each other or you may have a bad sensor contributing to this issue.
my truck would run that hot pulling the hills until i put a good radiator cap on it. If yours is factory i promise you that spring is week! replace it, Its cheap and will make sure your cooling system is at the correct psi.

I did replace my Degas cap and it seems to seal good, I'm aware of the Ford issue with these so that was one of the first easy fixes I did.
I'm not sure if I did hear the fan or not? When it did reach 228 I did hear a higher vibe/pitch sound coming out of the engine, I'm assuming it was the fan now.
I did get the fan PID programed into my SGII and looked at data on it while idling in the driveway, Fan speed idling was 405, will have to take it on a run to see the numbers there....
My gut feeling with this is the fan speed due to the EGR delete. I kept the EGR valve and I do have the EGR plugged in, but I think something isn't right there???
