There should be a plug on the pan on the back of the rear differential, and the pan is mounted on the front of the front axle. Fluid should be up to the threads.
Only thing I would add to that is its good practice remove a fill plug before ever removing a drain plug/diff cover.
True. But I never found a drain plug on the F250's or F350's I've owned. Always had to remove the rear pan/cover to drain them. Do they have drain plugs on the newer trucks? My 08 has a bolt that you remove to drain the rear differential, but it's also an F450 with a much bigger differential.
