Need some help. I finished changing the front diff, not too big a problem other than no room to use the gear oil bottles. Went to change rear, but not sure where the plug is to drain/refill oil. Only plug I see is about 1/4 the way up the pan on the driver's side. Uses what looks like 3/8 inch socket drive?
Is this right, doesn't look like I'll be able to refill the 3.3L it specs for??
That's how it is on mine (Sterling 10.25") and should be the same on yours (Sterling 10.5"). In order to completely drain the differential you need to remove the cover. The drain/fill hole combination thing is just a bad idea. Buy some gasket maker and take the cover off. Not a tough job and you'll get all the old fluid out.
Yep, that's the only plug. It's a poor design. I would recommend removing the cover rather than using the pump. It's really not that much of a pain and you can really let it drain and inspect everything. A fresh seal doesn't hurt either.
