I read about guys getting 22-24 psi of boost. Some a lot more.
With the truck in my signature Ive never seen over 17.
I just did the ported housing and RR wheel and boost seems to come on sooner but still cant get her over 17 psi. I usually run out of room or it up shifts.
Edge controller set to stock position.
Altitude could be one factor. What are you using to read boost? How is your wastegate actuator adjusted? Have you tried any runs with the red line disconnected?
On a totally stock setup 17 psi boost is what you should see.
If you add a tuner/programmer/plug the wastegate you can push her up to 22 psi. The PCM will defuel when it detects boost over 22 psi.
Above 22 can be achieved on a stock turbo by plugging the wastegate controller and a higher HP program/tune. You must also add a boost fooler to prevent the PCM from seeing the boost going over 22 psi. Or the tune/program has to compensate for this.
{cracking knuckles} Since you have intake mods, you can plug the red line to the wastegate you might get up to 22 PSI boost with stock tuning. Once you hit 22 PSI, the stock tune starts regulating the fuel to not exceed 22 PSI (defuel).
If you reach this point, you need a boost fooler on the MAP sensor to prevent the defueling. Not some electronic device, these are unreliable. You need to regulate the the air pressure to the MAP sensor. I have the Riffraff OCR (Overboost Code Regulator) and I like that one.
Now... exhaust. If you have stock exhaust, you can reach 20 PSI pretty quick, but that last 2 PSI is a struggle. If you have a 4" exhaust, the 22 PSI comes quick and easy.

Which wheel are you using? If you are using the ported housing you should really be using this one in the link below.

In the early days... I had a stock turbo and sticks with upgraded air in/out, a boost fooler, and a tuner:
So, its my understanding that I could see 20 psi with the red line pulled and plugged.
Can I tow like this until I can get a tuner and boost fooler?
My Edge monitors boost and defueling also.
Knowing how much the engine and components can take without immediate harm, I would rather tow with the the red line plugged and wastegate adjusted for more boost, as long as it's not completely disabled. More air is very good - within limits. I limit my boost to 35 PSI, so I have no idea what my system is ultimately capable of.
