Off subject a little as were discussing the 5R110W trans. 6.2 uses the 6R140. How many miles on the fluid and filter and the transmission?
Transmission mileage is about 69,000. I think the fluid was changed around 45,000, but I don't think the filter was changed (not sure off hand; dealer did the work).
Subscribed... I've noticed a few times lately that mine gives a harsh 2-3 shift. Not always, but sometimes...

I change the fluid and filter in an Automatic before or at the recommended intervals. Thats generally around 25K. You need to do it much sooner if you do any repeated heavy towing like 15K IMO...Mine will do a hard 2-3 upshift every so often. I think its the nature of the beast as to how 2-3 upshift is accomplished with this 6R140 trans. Not sure exactly how it does this shift as our resident Engineer (Mark) retired before it came out??? Mark?
I come from the high perf and muscle car world. IMO Id rather have a firm positive shift vs a smooth cushy one. The latter causes frictional heat and will deteriorate the frictions/steels and fluid faster over a firm positive shift.
IMO the 6R140 is superior to the 5R110W. I have not had either one apart yet to comment on how beefy they are internally.
The first 6R140 prototype was built on my last day at Ford Motor Company. I didn't go look at it, I had other things to do that day. I don't know much at all about that transmission.
Update to my original post concerning transmission hard shifting/shuddering/slipping.
While waiting for my transmission issues to heal, I decided to lube the rear drive shaft slip joint. Hells flames what a difference. Early days but after three or four shopping trips and one 20 mile 8000 lbs tow, this is a changed truck. No hard/missed shifts or judders or clunking - it's a miracle. It's so smooth.
Sorry for misleading you guys with a transmission problem when it looks as though it was just the drive shaft.
Would you mind elaborating on how you lubed the slip joint? I have looked under my truck several times, and I don't have a grease fitting anywhere south of the ball joints...

I put a link on the 1st page of this thread on slip spline re-grease^^^
