I tried a different brand of oil, along with their fuel additive and added Hot Shot Secret to my 6.0L. Nothing helped. I never got to try 5W-40 but my bet would be it WOULD have helped (I traded it off). I cant say for certain. The thing ran like crap when it was cold but ran fine once warmed up (as the oil thinned I'm sure) plus the more miles I put on the oil the better it ran. Just my personal experience

Mine was doing the exact same thing. I tried the Hot Shot Secret with no improvement. The Archiol corrected the problem in one day. No issues since then and that was over 2 years ago.

I had same problem. It was my FICM. Got one from ficmrepair.com. I upgraded to the 58 volt. Now I can start up and drive it.
I had good success with 5W-40. After the big job I had the injectors cleaned like you Rusty when I had my engine done in 2011. Starting in the cold was fine before that. After the cleaning there was a marked improvement. I think you'll be happy!
Cranked up on the second try, seemed to idle smoothly. I let it warm up for a bit while I checked for leaks and let it get some of the air out of the HPO system so I didn't drive it cold yet. Seemed to be a major improvement but I'll know for sure in a day or two. It was down on power but hopefully that just the computer relearn thing. The batteries were disconnected for several days.
I tried several oil addatives before doing this. The big three all made some difference but nothing lasted very long. Your results may vary but on my truck the RevX made the most dramatic improvement in cold idle smoothness. The Motorcraft PM22 fuel Addative was the only fuel Addative to make a noticeable difference. It didn't help with idle quality but it shifted better and seem to have a little more power when cold.
My mistake I got my repaired FICM from All Computer Resources,Inc.Dodge Jeep Chrysler PCM ECM ECU Computer .... They offer the 58volt upgrade and they claim it adds 40HP. They have a sale price of 149.00 plus 50.00 for the 58volt upgrade. I haven't had anymore problems with cold rough start/idle. I tried archoil with 15w40 on my last oil change and I did not notice any change. I think I'm due for some needed upgrades with other issues I'm having. Meanwhile I'm waiting for my OBDII Bluetooth adaptor to arrive so I can use Torque Pro to monitor my vitals before I make the move.

Reason: Corrected price

A good number of people has switched to Rotella T-6 5W-40 oil or equivalent. My truck on 15W oil runs like a dog. Try some 5W at your next oil change. I would be shocked if you didn't like the difference.

Thanks Eric, I'm getting ready to change my oil to T6 5w-40. I've been reading so much about it I have to do it. I'll let you know how I feel about it.

Been contemplating the switch from T5 syn blend to T6.........just can't get over the paranoid side of me that thinks I might get a leak somewhere.
I've done it on my gassers with no issues.
Not really having cold start issues(yet) but I know it would help once things get really cold.
