Another E40d Question

Will the #5 fuse under the hood put the tranny in to limp mode? One of the things on this fuse is the backup lamps and I think I lost them about the same time the od light started flashing.

Have not pulled any codes as of yet (going to today)

I pulled the codes and every single code related to the trans came up....

Since then I have adjusted the fipl and it made no difference.

I got the fuse to stop blowing after playing with the connector on the tranny.

Made a 150ish mile drive last night. The od light did not flash once, however if I'm on the diesel pedal and let off some it will slam in to the next gear.

If I stay on it it seems to shift smoother.

Thoughts?

I'm going to guess something is wrong. If I knew what codes were set I could make a better guess.

Code 23 means you didn't have the throttle pedal on the floor while running the engine off test.

Code 67 means the trans wasn't in park or neutral when running the test. This could happen if the MLPS is bad. I've also seen it set when the AC is turned on when running the test.

Has anyone had the MLPS Itself fail?
I picked up a jeep recently to be my dd but still need this truck for work purposes.

If I can't figure out soon going to either find a 2wd zf5 or sell the truck.

Yes, I've seen plenty of them fail.

Will it failing blow the #5 fuse under the hood?

And if failed what will happen in terms of shifting?

This also serves as the neural safety switch and that part is functioning without issue.

I don't know, what circuits does fuse #5 under the hood protect?

Usually some of the gears won't be available, depending on what failed in the sensor.

That part is totally separate from the sensor part of the MLPS.

Fuse 5 says backup lamps and some gasser items, I've cut the backup lamp wiring out of the harness to rule it out.

Has all the gears just hits the next gear hard and flashing od.

if your tach (rpm) sensor or speed sensor or flps is set out of spec or has failed it will go into limp mode. these sensors must be working or erratic shifts will result. check and clean all sensors if there is a short in the brake lite circuit it may make the tourq converter to not lock but tranny will shift fine.. proper diagnosis is crucial.

Tach works flawlessly

Have checked and tested the flps and its well within spec and no dead spots.

I still think it has to do with the #5 fuse as this all started when I lost mu backup lamps in the first place.

I'm currently on the look out for a zf5 to do the swap, unless i can find a simple low cost solution.

it probably needs the MLPS connector cleaned or the sensor replaced.either way (both preferably, when replacing the sensor) 5-10 mins of your time and $40-50.not the most complicated or expensive issue.

rescan with holding WOT with engine off to insure 23 goes away and your left with the MLPS code.inspect wires, adjustment, replace if needed and then insure code 67 is gone.easy peasy and you hardly get your hands dirty.slightly easier than a zf5 swap even.
