Yeah it's true----you get error messages when trying to access the CD-ROM's info if its past its built in expire code.
While it seems mostly like a plot to keep making money for new and current info I think it was originally intended to force dealers into keeping their info current. The local dealers I use seem to be part of perhaps a Ford network that gives them access to parts, both retrieving and ordering.
