Speedometer stopped working
2000 F-250 XLT - Driving down the highway tonight, cruise control on, all of a sudden the speedo went to zero, cruise went off and the abs light came on and the speedo went back up... soon after that, the speedo, odometer and trip stopped working and the abs light was still on... even after restartiing the engine... any ideas?

Thanks for the responses... Bud, could you be a bit more specific on where this "VSS" is located? Also, is this a common problem on this truck? I've never heard of this happening... Thanks in advance

Yes, it's common, but not always needs to be replaced. Try disconnecting the plug, cleaning it and reconnecting it. It's located on top of the rear differential, driver's side. You might need to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the PCM.
Try that first.
If it doesn't work, just run down to the dealership (or parts store if available where you live) and get another. I think the cost here is between $24 and $27. Peice of cake to install.

You will probably find a bit of wear metal from the rear end has stuck to the magnetic pickup of the speed sensor.The metal deposits will confuse the sensor. Remove it from the axle with 1 bolt and try cleaning it off before replacement.
