Remote and key compatability?

I just hopped into some of the newer 2014 and 2015 Explorers and F150s at work. I noticed they're still using the same key blank, as my Excursion and Crown Vic keys fit in the slot.

I like the remote fob built into the key head.

Are the newer remotes and PATS keys compatible with the Excursion's Keyless system and PATS module?

I can't say for sure about the Ex. But I can tell you that on my 2005 F-150 there was a key and separate remote. I bought a key for a Fusion, it had the same blade length as the F-150 key and it had the fob built in. It worked just fine once cut and programmed. So I would imagine that will a little research, there is the possibility of a combined key/fob for the Ex.

They sell VW style flip keys for my focus that work. Hopefully someone knows about the Ex as i really want to consolidate my keychain.

anyone make any progress on figuring this out, I'd love to have the combined fob/key as well.

I did verify that the REMOTE from a 2015 Explorer, 2010 Expedition, and 2013 Transit Connect will operate the Excursion locks and vice versa.

It seems all Ford REMOTES are compatible.

To get the key head with the built-in remote into the Excursion ignition will take a bit of filing of the shroud around the key hole.

I don't know how to program the PATS without going to the dealership. Couldn't verify if the newer PATS chip is compatible with the Excursion PATS module. I wish I could rip it out. I don't want to pay a hundred bucks to program a key at the dealership.

I'd have to look at the later key on my wife's escape, but I know the Excursion key you can pop the RFID pill out of it, same as my Mustang. There is a door in the top of the key that you can remove.

This is some generic Locksmith key. I can clearly see the RFID pill because the head is clear. It's embedded in the plastic.

Yeah, but I was thinking about when you mod the trim ring to accept the later key.
