I would like to have a blank ignition key to store inside of my truck to use in case of lost key / emergencies. I went to WalMart to get one made and the guy said that I had to have one made at the dealer because of the encoded information. Didn't make sense to me, but what do I know? I thought the encoding was in the faub and had nothing to do with the key itself. I do not have memory seat adjustment or anything. There is nothing on the key itself. I have the XLT package. Any ideas? Thanks.....
You need a key an 80 bit chip in it. You can buy the keys on eBay and then take some place to have it cut. The your current keys will have and any keys you buy will need have SA stamped on it.
You will need 2 previously programmed keys to program the new key(s). You user manual tells you about it. I have a programmed key I keep in my truck for the same reason you mentioned. It is nice to walk out and times and not have to take your keys with you.
here is a listing for 2 keys that I have purchased before.
