Making a new ignition key

I only have 1 key and need an extra key. The dealer told me they need to cut a key for $25.00. Then they need my truck plus my ignition key to program the new cut key for another $80.00. Kind of expensive but I do need another key.
Does anyone know how they do the programing. Will it require plugging into the OBD II port? If so will I need to program my car back to stock cause I got the Diablo predator installed?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer my questions!

Yes, that is what they will do. What they don't tell you is there is a way to reprogram the key yourself. I am not sure with your truck, but I had a 98 Contour that had the key with the chip and the way you did it was to use the old, working key, and turn the ignition to run. Then turn it off, remove the key insert the new key and turn to run again within 5 seconds and it programs it.

Again, not sure about your truck as you don't put any info on year etc... but that is how it was on my car. It should say in the owners manual how to do it. Mine did.

I have a 2002 Excursion. I did some research and they may need 2 keys. Since I have 1 key, they have to kill the original key and start over with 2 new keys. Then when I do have 2 keys programed there is a way to do the 3rd key yourself because it takes 2 keys to make a third key.
Anyways I'm sick how much it costs.
