I bought the tbi van I had off a buddy for 500 bucks. It was 1 ton extended, and beside the drivers seat being crushed it was a good runner so I couldn't pass up that kind of price. Only thing wrong with it (in his mind) was "the oil pressure sender needs replaced" because the oil press would drop to 0 and flicker only enough to make the needle move once in a while. I checked the oil at the gas station, nothing on the dipstick...so I meandered into the station and bought two quarts of oil, poured it in, still nothing on the dipstick. So I said f it, bought a gallon of rotella t....poured another quart, nothing on the dipstick. F it again, poured the rest of the gallon in. 6 qts later it was just above the full line....I gained a new respect for what engines can take after that. I/we put 25k on the van before selling it, had to add a quart of oil regularly, but it never gave any additional problems. I couldn't believe it, and waited for the day it seized up expecting it to happen but never did.

From a raw performance standpoint, the windsor small block trumps sbc hands down for a myriad of reasons. But the Ole sbc is tried and true, and doesn't get any cheaper in all fields of cost.

thanks for all the help guys. I looked at the truck today, the guy was a big liar. Looked good from 50' away. Bondo cracks on the rear bottom corners. lots of big spot were the paint was missing. I would expect that from a truck 21 yrs old, but not the way he discribed it. the front tires looked like she needs some major frontend work. I never even talked to the guy, I got out took a close look and that was enough for me. I drove 35 miles to get there. some people, why can't they just be honest would of saved me a trip.

Little off topic, but definitely related to this thread.

Clicked on it when it started, (page 1) and my Avast antivirus went nuts. Something from a Z28 forum gave it fits. Anybody else have this happen?

unfortunately, most liars are stupid enough to believe their own lies...so in their own mind its the truth. I see it all the time, lying implies intent, misinformation is the product of the stupid. some people are a combination of the two.
