I have a 04 6.0l and all of a sudden it started dumping white/grey smoke at idle and when I drive it it goes to black then let off throttle and back to grey/white I had an up pipe leak at the y pipe I thought it might be an issue with that but I just got done fixing it and the problem still there so iam guessing it's either a sticky injector or the ficm but it starts up nice and does not knock around egr delete is don with all the goodies arp studs ect also the injectors have only 30k so it's hard to believe but iam just stumped haven't tested ficm yet and my tuner doesn't pick up any codes
I am leaning more towards a stuck unison ring, ebp sensor or an cac problem. Live data will verify this. Black smoke is an indication of 1 of 2 things, not enough air or too much fuel. As a blind shot from the hip over the Internet I think the ebp sensor needs cleaned or replace.
Don't have anything to check live feed I will tear into the ebp sensor . I still have turbo whistle so wouldn't that rule out the unison ring and I'll check lift pump thanks for quick replies let y'all know if problem resides or still there
My 06 had the same smoke you describe. Drove me nuts trying to figure out. Ended up finding a really good 6.0 mechanic in my area through FTE. He diagnosed it to a bad turbo. Put new turbo on and haven't had an issue since.
Exactly what I thought too. My truck ran great, no boost issues and no codes. I struggled to believe it was the turbo. Mechanic suggested a new turbo and updated drain tube and up tube, which is what I had him do.
