After buying my truck (67 SB w/ 300, 3sp) I needed to fix the carb due to what I think was a sticking or sunk float. I went ahead and bought a reman Carter YF, which looks darn near identical to the one that got sent back as a core. Old unit was YF6239S and new unit is YF6056S, which I did not notice until now. I don't know anything about carbs (trying to learn as I go) so I gave it to my father and said "Find me a replacement, please!" I didn't really question the replacement since it looked pretty identical.
It's been deathly cold lately and impossible to work on my truck, but I just tried to bolt it up (single digits outside) and immediately ran into a very frustrating problem. It does not match up with the studs coming out of the intake manifold! 2-11/16" spread on carb mounts, 2-15/16" spread on intake studs
Please tell me there is a simple remedy and I can resolve this without sitting the carb in the closet for ever and throwing down cash for another? I'm rather pessimistic about that though....
Searched the serial numbers on thecarburetorshop.com and my old carb should be from '72 300 and new one from '71 300. I would think those years would use identical intakes, no?

I would think so, but maybe not. We need to ask the King!
Oh wise and resourceful king Number Dummy, what is this man's problem?
Looked on Autoline's website and the old "YF 6239 S" also cross references to a C6033. So, according to their website I have the correct carb, looks correct, but the mounting holes are 1/4" off.
The info on thecarburetorshop.com must be wrong. In my Ford fische there are at least 7 70/71 carb part numbers that were replaced by then active 1972 carb part numbers. 65/72 ALL Ford trucks 240/300 took the same intake manifold. All B,C,F,LN series. There are no 9A589 carb to intake spacers listed for 71/72. Carb gaskets are listed with or without governor. Not throat size. Did thecarburetorshop.com actually have it listed as "300" or as "Ford truck 6 cylinder"?
Autoline's #C6033 and their #C6077 are almost identical except that 33 has precise round holes on the mounting plate, and 77 has slotted holes (like my old carb.) 6077 would have been a direct bolt up
Well a road block like that only gets my wheels turning for ideas.
My first though can you file the mounting base hole lager to an egg shape to get it mounted on ?
Then How about an adapter plate, No you can't do that either ?
Well any way to send it back and exchange it ? No not even
Then do it any way you can use the thick flat washers over the egged out hole and don't over tighten it should work, if your stuck with it and don't want to make it work. Then suck it up and buy another one that will work. What's your other Plans then.
I gave the carb to my father and he said he will slot the holes for me. He has a garage with loads of tools, so that works! Will pick it up Monday. Luckily, being only 1/4" too narrow, the holes need a mere 3mm elongated on the "outer" portion. I'll touch it up with a Dremel stone if I need a few more hairs.
Today it was above freezing outside, although the yard is a complete swamp from melting snow.
