I ordered a set on ebay. As I was screwing bulb into oscket, the bulb socket on housing cracked!!!
Returned for a new set. Installed today and bulbs installed OK. Began to adjust pass side and then moved to drivers'side. Made several adjustments and noticed that beam was no longer moving. Checked light housing and guess what.....bulb housng was cracked and bulb fell completely out
of housing!!!!
Now what? Order another set of DEPOs?
Should I get a refund and purchase a different brand? These were made in Taiwan.
I've heard Depo was a decent brand, but don't know all that much about them. Depo seems to be one of the preferred replacement brands. I prefer TYC or Eagle Eyes. The worst is Vision.
I used to prefer Ford replacements, but my friend just got a set and within 6 months they had water in them. I think they are not any better than other replacements now. They're probably made in the same place.
I have thought about this to be sure that I am not doing something wrong and causing the bulb bases of the housing to crack. I can't think of anything. Any housing that can't withstand a bulb tightened with the supplied plastic nut/bulb holder, is a low quality product. The OEM Ford ones appear to be made of a higher grade of plastic.
NOTE: As I was removing the pass side housing, the base of the bulb holder was also cracked!!! As soon as I unscrewed the bulb holder the bulb socket cracked!
Now what?
Wondering If I should just get a new set of OEMs and be done with this?
NOTE: I did do the wiring mod with relays and heavier gauge wire. Hey, at least that project appeared to work (the lights turned on!!).
Not sure if this mod will help much with OEM lenses?
Will OEM lenses be any better with the mod and Sylvania Ultra halogen bulbs?
I just replaced my old Headlights with a Set of OEM Ford, and before I put them on I'm going to seal them up so I won't have to worry about any moisture issues. I figured they are the best since there OEM Ford, and the ones on my Truck now have lasted good. The only issue is the Yellowing, and a little condensation in them. That's why I'm going to seal the new ones up, so I won't have that issue later on. I found the Headlights on e-Bay, that's the cheapest place I could find the OEM Lights. U-Haul has a Store on e-Bay under the name of U-TECHCENTER, and they sell a lot of Brand New OEM Ford Parts that fit our Year Trucks. And I bought 1 of my Headlights from them that was brand new in the Ford Box, and I got it for about half the price other sellers are asking. So you might check them out if you want to go with OEM Ford...
I've never had any issues with Depo lights, used quite a few. I had one new TYC headlight and bought a Depo to make a pair for my Taurus. I couldn't tell them apart. YMMV.
interesting.never had problems there.the depo adjusters and mounting hardware is real cheap.i tried to swap over all the oem i could, but haven't run into cracking the cases.......yet lol.
how are the TYC brand in comparison for quality? are they oem style or depo clear style?
The TYC are OEM style with lines in lens. The appear to be a little better quality than the DEPOs. As you mentioned, the adjusters are of low quality compared to OEM. New lenses and Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs provides a pretty good driving light for 23 year old technology! I actually like the look of the OEM style as it makes it look its vintage.
