Led Fog Lights

Well bought my new truck and love the look and ride. But Ford can't seem to get it all right. Led headlight and halogen fogs. Really. I am look for a replacement bulb to match the headlights.

In general, a replacement led bulb isn't a great idea because the stock housing is engineered for the focal point of a halogeb bulb, where your run of the mill led bulb is simply jammed with as many led chips as they can fit on a stick to match the luminous output of the halogen bulb.

There are exceptions but they are on the expensive side as far as bulbs go.

You'll want something like this that has only side firing LEDs that are properly spaced to interact as intended with the factory housing's reflectors.

Personally, I find that the halogen bulb color cuts through fog better, and since my fog lights are not on unless conditions are poor, I'll probably stick to the halogen for now, even though they don't match.

One of the first things I did when I got my truck was swap out the mismatched license plate lights with LED though to match everything else.

Putco and one other company also make full led replacement housings that appear to be of high quality but I haven't seen them in person.

Thanks for the advise. I have bought many trucks and its amazing what all needs to be done to get the way I like it. Daulliner best in the world, wire harness to keep fogs on with high beam, rubber mats, led lights inside and out, and level kit.

I know what you mean. I had trim, mats, mudflaps and tie downs installed on my truck within an hour of taking delivery! :-)

Morimoto makes a complete assembly that replaces the whole fog lamp assembly. It is much whiter and much more "focused" than the stock fog lamp.

I installed them, and aimed them to match the stock fog lamp beam. I found that this made them too low, and it was not good.

So I raised the aim by several degrees and found that I like them much better. The main differences being the color (white instead of yellowish), and beam; Morimotos are much much "tighter", and need to be aimed higher.

Would you be able to post up a picture of the beam pattern on a wall/garage door? I like the morimoto design but I'd like to see what the cutoff looks like.

So would you say it's more of a "driving light" kind of pattern?

I've been thinking about doing this also. I don't care for the color of the fogs. All the tech in my truck and the fog lights look like a open butter container.

Just found these.

Stage 3 also has kits to replace the entire fog light assembly. Basically, seems like the only limitation is your budget.

Check out the 4-frame picture on the fog light kit with the 2009 F150. That's a good example of what you don't want and why it's important to have a properly designed bulb and/or housing. The stock fog light casts a straight-top line on the wall, and all the other pictures have different patterns and tons of light scatter, which is what blinds oncoming drivers. You have to be really careful when changing bulb technologies without changing housings, and based on that picture, I would definitely go with a all new housing over an LED bulb as that's not safe.

XLT

So the XLT trim does not come with the LED headlights and they are a huge improvement I gather. What does it cost to swap them out and look and function like the factory installed lights on the higher trim levels?

Sorry. We went on vacation, and I did not see this until this morning. I will try to get a picture of what this looks like.

Just installed these in my fogs and they are 1000 percent better than factory halogens.
