I received my AE Software today and pulled the following codes from the Transmission: (KOEO Test)
P0750 Shift Solenoid A
P0755 Shift Solenoid B
P0741 Torque Converter Circuit Performance or Stuck Off
P1754 Coast Clutch Solenoid Circuit
also have a P0500, P1728
and P0476 Exhaust Pressure Control/ Rang while engine running.
Considering those transmission codes, I would think I might just have a bad connector somewhere ? any thoughts?
As per driving, the transmission does not start in first, and also does not down shift into first when coming to a stop, unless I manual down shift.
P1728 says its torque converter slip detected, in my case it was "all your s#it is slipping and ya got a junk trans".... that one i would be concerned about if i were you.... drain the fluid and see what it looks like, if you and the P.O.'s have never performed a tranny service your trans is likely as junk as mine was..... the manual and Brian from BTS both say that fluid and filter need to be changed every 30,000 miles.... two reputable sources lol

While new fluid is never a bad idea, it isn't called for here.
You have an electrical problem, and that almost certainly caused the P1728 code. It could be either a ground or a power issue.

Nope Nope Nope.
You'll get a P1725 if the ECM is commanding the Torque converter to lock and the lock doesn't happen or is intermittent, as a damaged wiring harness or bad connection will cause. I'm willing to bet that there is a wiring issue here, since there are so many codes for the transmission.
Time to start tearing into looms. Look for abrasions where the harness touches the body. Use an electrics cleaner on all of the connections, especially the solenoid body connector on the right side of the transmission. There is a way to check the solenoid pack by applying 12v to one of the pins and grounding some to listen for the audible "click" of the solenoid actuation. I did this with the solenoid body out of the truck using a 12v power source and a couple of wires.
Everyone here needs to understand that the E4OD isn't a bad transmission. The cooling system and torque converter are the main culprits for failure. Once more than the other, simply because the poor cooling system damages the torque converter, which pollutes the transmission with tons of abrasives.
If you haven't yet, upgrade those damn 5/16 cooler lines to 3/8, get 3/8 fittings for everything and replace that puny little aux cooler. Tru-Cool max 4739 mounted in the bumper is the way to go if you can't afford a 6.0 cooler.
Read post 6 in the following thread about torque converters and cooling.
The e40d isn't a bad transmission... when it's behind the 351 or 302.... it can't stand up to the diesel engine in stock form, we've seen it over and over. I've personally pulled I think 4, swapped to manuals, all junk trans, my ol ladies dad had his go out and left him an the family on the side of the road, and he keeps up on maintenance. Only way to keep an e4od alive behind as diesel is to buy a better built one.
thanks Guys for the advice. I will take a look at the entire electrical wiring on friday and see if i find an issue.
Once this is done and hopefully fixed, i will look into the cooling issues as well as changing fluids. I did swap for a Manual on my Truck, but since this is my wifes truck and she cant drive stickshift due to health issues, this one will have to stay automatic.
Quick question here and maybe Mark can chime in: if i have to pull the transmission, how complicated are they to re-build ? I have done some small transmissions before , but not a ford.
thanks
