You might consider a full time rear facing camera. We put on on my '11 and '15. Its mounted on the upper light you find at the top edge of the roof on the back of the cab. Its wireless and goes to a 7 in screen on the console.
Full time wireless rear facing camera/7" monitor on console
Hi There. Thanks for taking the time to reply. I looked at those a while back before I added a new head unit. Now that I have that, I am simply going to add a camera and hook it to that.
Some of those wireless units are pretty nice. Would definitely go that route if I hadn't added a new head unit.
Looks like I found my answer so I will post it here since I had so much trouble finding it in case someone else looks for it.
Found some ford service manuals on the inter-webs.
Do not use the blue with a white stripe. This is a reverse wire but its controlled by the body control module. It has voltage overage sensing so if there is too much draw on this, you can put the BCM into a fault mode requiring a reset from your friendly Ford dealer. Who would have thought?
The service bulletin states that anyone wishing to add anything triggered by the 12 volt reverse lamps to use the white with brown stripe wire located in the trailer plug. Simply peel some of the sheathing around the wire bundle and tap (or most likely solder and shrink wrap) your wire.
